The Situation
It’s 4:15 PM on a Friday. A finance manager receives a voice message from what sounds unmistakably like the company’s CFO. The message emphasizes that the normal approval workflow should be bypassed just this once because of the confidential nature of the transaction. The CFO is traveling internationally.
The voice is perfect — inflection, pace, and familiar phrases the finance manager recognizes from years of working together. The supplier account details come through in a follow-up email from an address that looks like the CFO’s but has one additional character in the domain name.
